Caythorpe Primary School marked a very special milestone on Friday 17th July, welcoming current and former pupils, parents, staff and members of the local community to celebrate 150 years of education in the village.

The school was filled with memories as visitors spanning several generations returned to the classrooms and corridors where they had once learned, with some former pupils revisiting the school for the first time in over 60 years. The celebration provided a wonderful opportunity for old friends to reconnect, share stories and reminisce about their time at Caythorpe Primary.

In the school hall, guests enjoyed exploring an extensive display of photographs, pupils’ work and historical memorabilia, alongside the school’s fascinating log books, carefully maintained by successive headteachers since 1907. These remarkable records offered a unique insight into the school’s rich history and the many changes it has witnessed over the decades.

Visitors were also invited to tour the school, led by children of the school council, seeing first-hand how education has evolved while watching today’s pupils engaged in their learning. It was a poignant reminder that, while much has changed over the last 150 years, the school’s commitment to nurturing children and inspiring a love of learning remains as strong as ever.

One of the most memorable moments of the day came when current pupils buried a time capsule at the front of the school. Filled with letters written to their future selves, the capsule was placed beneath a commemorative sundial and will remain unopened until 2033, when the children will be invited back to rediscover their memories seven years from now.

The celebrations concluded with a joyful family picnic on the school field, where current pupils and their families enjoyed an afternoon of games, activities and entertainment. The event brought together past and present members of the Caythorpe community, celebrating not only the school’s proud heritage but also the bright future that lies ahead.

As our current pupils buried the time capsule, they became part of that continuing story, creating memories that will be rediscovered in years to come. Thank you to everyone who helped make this wonderful celebration such a fitting tribute to 150 years of learning, friendship and community.”
